Our Innovation Team is crucial to each of these efforts. It is the Innovation Team that must bring our brand mission of Exploration to life through authentic explorations of the natural and human worlds. And it is the Innovation Team that must create products that bring the benefits and experiences of the connections they forge to life in compelling products and services that enhance the life of our tribe.
To achieve this, the Innovation Team needs both multiple skill sets across two regions. In Boston, we will have a team led by an Innovation Director that takes primary responsibility for the physical creation of ranges, products and stories. In London, we will have a team led by an Exploration Director that takes primary responsibility for the conceptual creation of ranges, products and stories. Obviously, to achieve our vision and objectives these teams will work as one, closely collaborate to define and create the product portfolio, and blend their skill sets for success.
As Global Innovation Director, you will lead a team in the creation and management of the entire lifecycle of our products. You will be manage the Innovation process and project portfolio. Just as your counterpart and team in London will develop product concepts based on their explorations, you and your team will develop product concepts based on market, consumer, ingredient and technical insights; and together you will translate those concepts into clear product briefs that your team can deliver. From there it is your team that sees projects through to launch, monitors success, and implements continuous improvement for performance and margins. It is your team that works with the Supply Chain teams to formulate, design, source, and produce our products. It is your team that has the responsibility to deliver products that wow our tribe and our finance department,
Key Responsibilities Remain intimately connected to our core tribe – the 28 year old global urban citizen Understand and share their lifestyle and desires in order to develop products that add value to their lives Gain a deep understanding of customer product experience, fill product gaps and identify new ideas that grow market share, improve customer experience and drive revenue growth Build and manage the global Innovation program Implement a disciplined, consumer and commercially driven Innovation process with clear stage-gates and milestones Lead the product development process through successful stage gate process, understand strategic priorities, perform market analysis, develop strategies for development, scope and prioritize activities based on business and customer impact, assess the commercial opportunities and risks of the innovation portfolio against business objectives Work with Project Management to develop detailed project timelines to deliver products on time and on budget Work with R&D, Sourcing, Creative Services, QA and manufacturing to ensure that critical tasks and key milestones are met and business risks are minimized Working with the Chief Brand Officer and Exploration Director, develop a 3-5 year portfolio plan and mesh that plan with our development program, ensuring that we achieve both our customer and our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities (continued) Direct all product development efforts Ensure the development and validation of actionable project briefs with detailed product specifications, technical requirements and prototypes for every product Oversee all product formulation, including fragrances, textures, ingredients, testing, and production specifications through to batch approvals Lead packaging definition and manage packaging development to ensure the delivery of highly attractive, experiential, functional and premium packaging Oversee packaging design and production standards Ensure appropriate legal and regulatory compliance Lead corporate sustainability efforts Work with the social and service teams to build stories based on core consumer insights, product ingredients and characteristics and train social and service personnel to use product details to acquire and manage relationships Support marketing and promotional efforts through development of sampling, holiday and GWP programs Drive continuous improvement - evaluate existing products and identify opportunities for improved margin, lower costs and extended product life cycle
Experience & Competencies Required:
Demonstrable affinity with the company's brand and luxury health & wellness industry; experience within the personal care industry desirable. Extensive, relevant experience developing products within a commercial environment. For this role, that experience must be more technical than conceptual. Proven commercial experience. Has actually brought products to market and been responsible for their success. Proven ability to deliver products and concepts that build a social media presence. An instinctive and personal understanding of the modern global urban lifestyle and the tribe that inhabits it. Not simply a sensitivity to cultural differences, consumer behaviours and trends, but an demonstrable interest in seeking them out. Entrepreneurial, resilient and flexible approach working with rapidly changing priorities and short deadlines. Must be able to set and carry out goals and work well during times of transition; experience in a start-up environment a pro. Must be eager, willing and able to lead without ego Strong problem solving skills and willingness to roll-up one’s sleeves to get the job done; skilled at working effectively with cross-functional teams; strong leadership and management skills; excellent written and verbal skills.
Education and Qualifications Required:This person must embody our brand values and business culture, and inspire trust in all they encounter. 10+ years’ related experience within beauty, skincare and/or fashion brands Experience managing a team and working with senior stakeholders.
